DETAILS:
On August 1, 2015 at 0435 hours Grants Pass Department of Public Safety Police and Fire personnel responded to the report of a metal trash can that was on fire in the area of SE 6th Street and SE I Street. The trash can was reported to be 10 feet from a building and firefighters were quickly able to extinguish the fire without it spreading to the nearby structure. Fire damage was contained to the trash bin.

Patrol Officers checked the area and located two white male juveniles who were believed to be associated with the fire. Grants Pass Department of Public Safety Detectives were notified and responded to the incident to assist with the investigation. Upon further investigation, it was determined both juveniles were involved and both were arrested for Reckless Burning. Due to limited availability of detention beds, only one juvenile was lodged because he was on probation. The second juvenile was cited and released to parents. Charges are being referred on both.

There have been other suspicious fires in the downtown Grants Pass area recently and Detectives are continuing to investigate if the two arrested juveniles are related to those incidents.
