At approximately 6:40pm this evening, the Hazard Police Department received a call from an employee at KFC on North Main Street stating that a man drove up to their drive through window and attempted to rob them. Officers arrived on scene in less than three minutes and discovered that the man handed a note through the drive-thru window demanding money and indicating he had a firearm and would use it if his instructions were not followed. When the employee turned away from the window, the man drove away without receiving any money.

Less than 10 minutes later, the Hazard Police Department received a call from an employee at Southern Spirits on North Main Street stating that a man matching the same description entered the business, brandished a handgun and demanded money. The suspect was able to get away with an undetermined amount of cash.

After further investigation, a person of interest has been identified and the Hazard Police Department need your help in locating him. He is identified as 34 year old Michael Scott Thompson of Hazard. Thompson is a white male, 6'1, 200 pounds with blue eyes. The vehicle involved in both incidents has been identified as a 2010 white Buick LaCrosse bearing Kentucky registration plate number 537RSD.

The attempted robbery at KFC remains under investigation by Corporal Tim Feltner. The robbery at Southern Spirits remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police due to the business being located outside the city limits.
