Novack was arrested and charged with the listed offenses after physically assaulting Strickland, then cutting him with a piece of broken bottle. Strickland received a cut to his hand and forehead. Conners also was cut with the bottle when she tried to intervene. She sustained a cut to her hand. Novack eventually was locked out of the residence, but was able to kick in the door to continue the assault. Novack had left the residence prior to police arrival. He threatened get a gun and return to kill Strickland. Novack was apprehended at a nearby residence.

Carrasco was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose after the victim reported Carrasco threatened her with a pair of metal cutting shears. A male customer in the business kept Carrasco from assaulting the victim, then held her until police arrived.
