WEATHER ALERT UPDATE: MAYOR SPANO URGES MOTORISTS TO USE EXTREME CAUTION, CITY PROGRAM CANCELLATIONS, PARKING RESTRICTIONS.
Yonkers, NY – January 27, 2015 – Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced this morning that the travel ban for the area has been lifted, but is urging residents to use extreme caution on City roadways.
“While we are thankful that the winter storm was less impactful on our area than originally forecasted, dangerous conditions, including heavy winds and snow drifting, do still exist,” Mayor Mike Spano said. “As our cleanup crews continue to work around the clock clearing and maintaining streets, I urge all motorists to use extreme caution when traveling.”

Travel
The travel ban for the region has been lifted. Please use extreme caution if you intend to travel today.
City Offices
City of Yonkers Offices, including City Hall, are open today, Tuesday, January 27.
Parking Restrictions
Alternate side parking rules and parking meter regulations are suspended today, Tuesday, January 27, 2015; however, residents are strongly encouraged to park their vehicle(s) in their driveway or garage, if possible, to help accelerate cleanup efforts. As always, residents are not permitted to park on designated snow emergency routes. (For a map and list of routes, visit www.yonkersny.gov/snow.)
Schools & Libraries
Yonkers Public Schools (YPS) and Yonkers Public Libraries remain closed today, Tuesday, January 27, 2015. Information about Regents exams will be forthcoming from YPS later in the week.
Garbage & Recycling Collection
The City has rescheduled garbage and recycling collection which was previously suspended. The new schedule is as follows: Tuesday’s regularly scheduled garbage collection will be picked up on Wednesday; Wednesday’s regularly scheduled recycling collection will be picked up on Thursday; Thursday garbage collection will take place Friday; Friday garbage collection remains suspended. The Recycling Center and Organic Yard remain closed today.
Programs & Services
All Parks Department programs and facilities remain cancelled and/or closed to the general public today, including:
Child, Youth and Adult Recreation Programs Aquatics at the Mark Twain and Yonkers Avenue Pools Project Friendship/ Young Adult Club Indoor Permit Holders at Yonkers Public Schools Coyne Park Rifle Range Murray’s Skating Rink Public Hours at the Yonkers Animal Shelter All Office for the Aging programs remain cancelled today.
