Interstate-80/Interstate-680/Highway 12 Interchange Project-Fairfield Red Top Road Access Changes-From Westbound Highway 12
SOLANO COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is installing additional concrete safety barriers for widening a section of Highway 12 near Red Top Road in Fairfield as part of the I-80/I-680/Highway 12 Interchange Project.
To ensure worker and public safety, motorists traveling on westbound Highway 12 will no longer be able to turn left onto Red Top Road from westbound Highway 12.
Motorists who access Red Top Road from westbound Highway 12 will instead need to access Red Top Road by exiting the Red Top Road exit from either westbound or eastbound Interstate 80.
The changes went into effect this weekend. Motorists will notice the changes during this week’s commute.
Motorists accessing Red Top Road from eastbound Highway 12 can still do so until further notice. Please watch for crews working in the construction zone.
I-80/I-680/Highway-12 Project Improvements:
The work is in preparation of the first construction package of the I-80/I-680/Highway-12 Interchange project.
During this first phase, a new Green Valley Road overcrossing will be constructed above I-80 about 200 feet east of the existing overcrossing. The new overcrossing will have twice the number of lanes (4) as the existing overcrossing (2), along with a new on ramp to westbound I-80/Highway-12. The connector ramp from westbound I-80 to Highway-12 also will be widened from one lane to two lanes.
